KinderConnect

Parent Communication & Messaging

Direct messaging between staff and parents with attachments, reactions, search, and an SMS fallback that only fires when a parent won't see the notification otherwise.

Most kindergarten communication still happens across three channels that don't talk to each other: a messaging app the director set up personally, printed notes in a bag, and a hurried sentence at pickup. Nothing is searchable, nothing is attributable, and the moment a staff member leaves, the history leaves with them.

KinderConnect keeps parent conversations inside the platform, tied to the organisation rather than to someone's personal phone number. Messages support attachments and reactions, the full history is searchable, and staff permissions control who can contact parents directly.

What is included

One-to-one and group conversations

Message an individual parent or a whole group. Conversations are scoped to the organisation, so history stays when staff change.

Attachments and reactions

Send files and images inside a thread. Parents can react to a message, which is often all the acknowledgement a short update needs.

Full-text search

Find a conversation from three months ago by what was said in it, rather than scrolling.

Automatic SMS fallback

If a recipient has no active push subscription, an opt-in SMS is sent instead — so a genuinely urgent message reaches a parent who never installed the app, without spamming everyone else.

Role-based messaging permissions

Control which staff roles may contact parents directly, so communication stays consistent with how your facility is run.

Why it matters

Communication that belongs to the facility, not the phone

When parent conversations live in a personal messaging app, the facility has no record and no control — and under GDPR, no lawful basis it can actually demonstrate. Moving them into KinderConnect makes the organisation the data controller in practice as well as on paper, with an audit trail behind it.

Fallback where it matters, silence where it doesn't

SMS is expensive and intrusive, so we don't broadcast it. The fallback triggers only when a recipient has no push subscription at all — a true last resort rather than a duplicate of every notification. Parents who use the app never get charged-for texts they didn't need.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a WhatsApp group?

A group chat gives the facility no record, no access control, and no defensible GDPR position — and when a staff member leaves, the history leaves with them on their personal phone. KinderConnect keeps conversations on the organisation, searchable and permission-controlled.

What if a parent has not installed the app?

An opt-in SMS fallback sends a text when a recipient has no active push subscription at all. It is a genuine last resort rather than a duplicate of every notification, so parents who use the app are never sent texts they did not need.

Can I stop certain staff from messaging parents directly?

Yes. Messaging is governed by role permissions, so you can keep parent contact with the staff who should own it while everyone else still uses internal communication.

Can I send files and photos in a message?

Yes — messages support attachments, and parents can react to a message, which is often all the acknowledgement a short update needs.

Can I find an old conversation?

Yes. Chat history is searchable by content, so you can find a conversation from months ago by what was said in it rather than by scrolling.

Can I message a whole group at once?

Yes. For one-way notices, announcements are usually the better tool — they add targeting, scheduling, and delivery receipts that a group conversation does not have.

Do parents get push notifications for messages?

Yes, via web push and the native apps, with parents controlling which notification types they receive.

Are messages translated between languages?

No. The interface is available in seven languages and each person picks their own, but what someone types is delivered as written.

What happens to conversations when a teacher leaves?

They stay. Conversations belong to the organisation, not to an individual's account or personal phone — which is the core reason not to run parent communication through a consumer messaging app.

Can parents message each other?

No. Communication runs between the facility and families. We also do not publish a shared parent contact directory, which some platforms do — under GDPR that is a liability we chose not to take on.

Is there a limit on message history?

No. History is retained and searchable for the life of the organisation account.
