Development records in childcare split into two very different kinds. Some — growth measurements, sleep patterns — parents want to see and enjoy seeing. Others — a speech therapist's working notes, an early concern not yet discussed with the family — must not appear in a parent's app before the conversation happens.
KinderConnect treats these separately rather than forcing both through one visibility setting. Measurements are parent-facing by design; specialist journals are gated by an explicit flag on each entry.

Record height, weight, and sleep over time, displayed as a trend rather than a list of readings.
Parent home tile
Growth appears on the parent's home screen — one of the most-opened parts of the app, because parents genuinely enjoy it.
Specialist journals
Speech therapists, psychologists, and other specialists keep their own journal types, assigned per author rather than shared with all staff.
Explicit parent-visibility flag
Each journal entry carries its own visibility flag, so clinical observation stays internal until the professional decides otherwise.
Bounded edit window
Entries are editable for a limited period, with the author retaining access — so a record reflects the observation rather than a later revision.

Clinical notes that don't leak into the parent app
The failure mode here is severe and specific: a specialist's preliminary note reaching a parent before a professional has spoken to them. Making visibility an explicit per-entry decision — rather than a role-level default someone might misconfigure — means the cautious outcome is the one that happens automatically.
The part of the record parents love
Growth tracking is a small feature with a disproportionate emotional return. Parents open it repeatedly, share it, and remember it — which makes it one of the strongest arguments for families engaging with the app at all, and engaged families are what make every other feature work.

What developmental data can I track?
Height, weight, and sleep over time, displayed as a trend rather than a list of readings, plus specialist observations recorded in journals.
Can parents see specialist observations?
Only when the specialist marks an entry parent-visible. Each journal entry carries its own visibility flag, so a preliminary clinical note cannot reach a parent before a professional has spoken to them.
Who can write in a specialist journal?
Journals are typed and author-assigned — a speech therapist writes in theirs, a psychologist in theirs — rather than being a shared notebook every staff member can edit.
Do you provide growth percentile curves?
Not currently. Measurements are tracked and charted over time, but WHO and CDC percentile curves were explicitly out of scope for the first version.
Is there a formal assessment framework built in?
No. There is no pre-loaded national curriculum framework or standards-based assessment tool today. Platforms built for the US market ship all fifty state frameworks; for European regulatory frameworks we would rather ship nothing than ship an approximation.
Can I produce a developmental report for parents?
Not as a single compiled document yet. Measurements, journals, media, and curriculum are all recorded, and assembling them into a per-child progress report is a planned addition.
Can an observation be edited later?
Within a bounded window, with the author retaining access — so the record reflects the observation rather than a later revision.
